Emmanuel Wemakoy and Julie Vasbinder bring decades of combined utility-scale renewable energy and substation EPC experience to strengthen SunEnergy1’s project delivery capabilities.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — SunEnergy1, a leading solar engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firm, today announced the addition of two experienced project leaders to its EPC Project Execution team: Emmanuel Wemakoy as Director of Substation Engineering and Julie Vasbinder as Project Director, Substation EPC. The new hires strengthen SunEnergy1’s ability to deliver complex, utility-scale solar and substation projects across its growing footprint.

“Emmanuel and Julie bring exactly the kind of hands-on, utility-scale EPC experience that will help us continue to deliver projects safely, on schedule, and on budget,” said a SunEnergy1 Chief Operating Officer, Larry Ostema. “As our project pipeline grows, adding proven leaders across project management, electrical engineering, and substation execution strengthens the team driving that delivery.”

Emmanuel Wemakoy, Electrical Manager

Wemakoy is an electrical engineer with extensive experience in the design and construction of high-voltage transmission lines, substations, converter stations, and medium- and low-voltage systems. He joins SunEnergy1 from K2 Management, where he provided independent engineering and consulting services for renewable energy developers and financial investors across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, including interconnection application support across ERCOT, MISO, SPP, PJM, and WECC regions. Wemakoy also held senior electrical engineering roles at Apex Clean Energy and Mortenson Construction, where he managed technical delivery for wind, solar, and transmission projects. At SunEnergy1, he will support construction monitoring, design review, and grid interconnection for the company’s utility-scale project portfolio.

Julie Vasbinder, Project Director, Substation EPC

Vasbinder joins SunEnergy1 as Project Director, Substation EPC, bringing a career built around utility and substation project delivery. She most recently served in senior project management roles at UtilityEngineering, LLC, including Senior Manager, Preconstruction and Senior Project Manager, Substation Engineering, and previously held substation engineering project management roles at Blue Ridge Power and Leidos. Earlier in her career, Vasbinder spent three years at Duke Energy Corporation managing transmission projects, including a $17 million cybersecurity and communications initiative delivered under budget and ahead of schedule. At SunEnergy1, she will lead substation EPC execution across the company’s project portfolio.

Wemakoy and Vasbinder join SunEnergy1’s EPC Project Execution team as the company continues to expand its utility-scale solar development, engineering, and construction operations across North Carolina, Ohio, and Arkansas.
